A look at the 1979 Japanese film “The Man Who Stole The Sun” and it’s relationship to Neon Genesis Evangelion, more specifically Rebuild of Evangelion.
Continue Reading →An overview of the guns seen in Evangelion, analyzing how this reflects Gainax’s choices for “set design” and “world building”. Part of the “Analysis of Evangelion” series of “fan-made bonus featurettes.”

I decided to start with something basic, something no one could argue with: how to actually pronounce certain terms within the show. While I anticipate we’re still going to run into some stubborn people who refuse to pronounce words properly, this seemed like a “safer” starting point to implement the REVA-mentality of “base things on facts, and a recourse to authority using citable sources, not your own opinions.”
Continue Reading →Analysis of what the socio-political situation of the world is like in Evangelion after the Second Impact disaster. It’s not actually particularly important to the overall story — this isn’t Gundam, it’s not about politics — but it is more backstory that fills in the overall very realistic approach that Evangelion took to its near-future world: realistically, this is more or less how the world socio-political situation would be 15 years after the Second Impact disaster, after official recovery efforts are largely over and the First World countries like Japan have already finished “reconstruction”.
Continue Reading →Discussing Evangelion and product placement; showing how they’ve used it before, and debating whether product placement is a shameless attempt to get more money or if it makes the story-verse feel more “real”.
Continue Reading →A major point about Shinji, as well as Gendo, in the series that the Gendo is sort of a dark future shadow, a stark warning to Shinji of what he’s going to turn into if he stays on the path he’s been going down, avoiding other people.
Continue Reading →This was made because I said in a previous video that “Rei doesn’t make eye contact with other people that much in the first half of the series,” and Eva Mania wasn’t convinced. So I made a sweeping analysis of Rei’s appearances in every single episode of the series.
Continue Reading →This was made as a video-response to something said in an iSugoi.com video: as the title says, its “provisional” in the sense that it wasn’t meant to be the definitive analysis of the entire Shinji/Rei relationship. Really, its mostly focused on analyzing the scene where Shinji accidentally falls on top of Rei after she comes out of the shower: this happens in episode 5 but is *also* present in Rebuild of Evangelion 1.0: You Are (Not) Alone, so its just as relevant for Rebuild of Eva.
Continue Reading →This was the first one that I made, and while I’m pretty proud of it because its a very common question that has at least a plausible possible answer…originally I thought I’d be doing every single audio recording using fully in character using a “V-voice” so I sound a bit overly dramatic; I quickly realized this is just distracting and I stop doing this after the next video
